WE SUPPORT COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL – A MESSAGE FROM THE DONOR RELATIONS MANAGER

Cheryl Rymal - Wednesday, December 23, 2015

I hope you and Craig are doing well and enjoying this Christmas week! I just called and spoke with someone in your office who said you were out, (hopefully enjoying some vacation time!), so I thought I would just send you a quick email to thank you for your faithful support this year — both through your giving as a business and personally. Thank you specifically for your recent gift to Compassion’s Unsponsored Children’s Fund!

In Peru earlier this year, we had the chance to help a child development center serve lunch to the 200 children in the program there. I walked from room to room with trays of food and watched the joy of every child. Every child was with a friend, ready to say prayers of thanks for the meal in front of them. Every child enjoyed the (truly delicious) meal before cleaning up their spot and heading out to play.

I knew there were dozens of kids who were waiting for sponsors – waiting for the letters that would empower and encourage them. I couldn’t tell who they were. That is a testament to your gift to the Unsponsored Children's Fund. When children are waiting for a sponsor, they don’t miss a meal. They don’t miss out on school or medical care. Waiting children know they are loved as soon as they are registered into the program. Our loving churches reach out and bring them close while they wait on a sponsor.

Your gifts make the wait easier. Your gifts help us reach more and more children with the truth about who they are. There are 1.7 million children in our program who know they are loved, treasured, and gifted. You are helping us bring that truth to the millions of others just beyond our reach.

Blessings to you and yours this Christmas, and thank you again.

In Him,

Katie Phillips

New Year and Resolutions…

Cheryl Rymal - Wednesday, December 23, 2015

As we come close to the end of another year, we start setting ambitious goals to become the best, truest, happiest and most fulfilled version of ourselves. Resolutions become our start to the New Year. However, only about 8% of the people follow through on their New Year’s resolutions. The reason? Most resolutions are too hard to keep.

Here are 3 resolutions that are easy to follow but will change your life for the better:

  1. Breathe More Deeply…deep breaths fill the lungs which allows oxygen to get to the brain quicker and helps the brain to perform at its peak. Start making a conscious decision to stop during your busy day just to breathe in. It’s amazing how it will lower your stress and help you to be more productive!
  2. Smile More Frequently…smiling releases endorphins into your brain which puts you in a good mood. A simple smile can go a long way toward improving your health and making your life better. And, when you smile, the world is brighter!
  3. Feel More Grateful…Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient. It strengthens relationships, improves health and reduces stress.
Don’t make the same ole’ resolutions of dieting or exercising more….make a resolution that heals the soul and brings joy to others! Happy New Year! May the days ahead hold many blessings for you and yours.

All Around the House

Cheryl Rymal - Monday, October 12, 2015

During the National Association of Home Builders show, the Best in American Living Awards gala celebrated projects that demonstrated the most innovative design trends that homeowners should pay attention to for the next few years. Homes are being designed with convenience and simplicity in mind. Some of those trends include:

In the master bath, homeowners who may have had an oversized tub previously seem willing to forgo it in their next home because they never seemed to use it much and filling and soaking in it consumes time they never seem to be able to spare.

In the kitchen, it’s increasingly an “island” nation, and the bigger the center island you can offer as an option, the better. Homeowners are seeking larger islands as the centerpiece of their kitchen because they picture their guests being able to lean against the island or sit at the same level to talk. Unsurprisingly, homeowners place a high priority on kitchens. Among the most popular amenities are stainless cooktops and ranges, undercounter lighting and lighted cabinet interiors. Not that you have to be a gourmet cook to crave such goodies. Some of the people who upgrade to big stainless ranges don’t even cook…they just want it to look good.

Granite countertops continue to be popular, but man-made quartz is a close second.  Solid colors are becoming a hot trend which is difficult to find in granite slabs. Granite will never go away totally, but when buyers want a more modern look, they will upgrade to a quartz product

Hardwood floors continue to reign; however, the tiles that look like wood are becoming a favorite option, especially for buyers who have dogs. The tile floors are low maintenance and harder to scratch.

Homeowners are opting for a “drop zone” or a “mud room” where they can put their keys, mail, etc. when they enter through the garage.

Stone or Cultured Stone, as an exterior upgrade, has become a popular upgrade. Using it to accent particular locations, like the dining area, base of front porch columns or front of garage, adds richness to the front of the house.

Indoor-outdoor living has become the number one request. Creating spaces that provide access to nature is what people want to help them relax at the end of a busy day.

Standard vs. Optional

Cheryl Rymal - Wednesday, October 07, 2015

Many American consumers were sobered by the recession and now are in more of a no-frills mode, except, perhaps when it comes to building their new home. The concept of “home” still pulls at the heartstrings and upgrading certain features remain high on buyers’ wish lists. Consumers may be leaning in a somewhat more practical direction now than they did in the spend-a-thon of the housing boom, but homebuyers still want what they want.

The whole concept of what’s “standard” and what’s “optional” has also changed. Many homebuilders took note of the kinds of features buyers routinely favored and began incorporating them into their regular/standard offerings in order to compete better in the marketplace. Largo-CR Homes exemplifies this trend with our “Everything’s Included” approach by eliminating allowances and including “above standard” standards. The standards include things like luxurious frameless maple raised and flat panel cabinets, Level 2 granite countertops throughout, brushed nickel plumbing fixtures, Bosch stainless steel appliances, a complete landscape package including irrigation, foam insulation in the attic, and so much more.

Spotlight on Hampton Lake

Cheryl Rymal - Wednesday, October 07, 2015

As a custom home builder in the Bluffton area, we often get people asking us what the best community to live in Bluffton is. This is a difficult question to answer, as all of our local communities are outstanding. They all have fabulous amenities, beautiful landscape and plenty of things to do. However, when people ask what the best lake community is, we have to say Hampton Lake!

Hampton Lake is located in the heart of Bluffton, South Carolina. The jewel of the community is the 165 acre freshwater lake that includes 7 miles of navigable waterways and 15 miles of shoreline. The lake, together with approximately 340 surrounding acres of nature preserve, creates over 500 acres of open space in the just over 900 acre community.

Recently I came across an article from Dr. Wallace Nichols book entitled “Blue Mind: The Surprising Science that Shows How Being Near, In, On or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected and Better At What You Do.” Dr. Nichols is a marine biologist who has been studying the benefits of being around water and why we get a “peaceful feeling” whenever we’re around water. As I read this article, I realized this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, as water is a life force for all living creatures. However, his research was quite inspiring as he moved beyond this “good feeling” to the healing properties of water. Perhaps this is why people are drawn to live closer to the water.

Hampton Lake – winner of “The Best Community in America” and “The Best Community.” Check it out and find out what peaceful living is all about!

Builders & Realtors – Working Together

Cheryl Rymal - Tuesday, October 06, 2015

At times, it can be portrayed as a war between home builders and real estate agents. This “war” comes from a gorge of dislike and distrust that has existed between builders and Realtors. And, in many cases, has prevented powerful partnerships from working together to increase mutual success.

However, times are changing and more agents and builders are working closely together. Builders realize and respect the fact that real estate agents are a large source of sales for them and are making strides to bridging the gap that used to exist previously between builders and real estate agents.

As president and owner of a custom home building company, we sought out our Realtors, marketed to them, offered them incentives and budgeted for commissions on 50 percent of our sales. This was probably our largest marketing investment. For us, this was worth receiving less profit in order to establish a working relationship with our realtors. In our opinion, without the help of our local realtors, a lot of the potential customers would have never entered our doors.

We will continue to bridge the gap by working with our realtors, establishing mutual respect and trust and building relationships that will last a lifetime!

The Benefits of Building a Custom Home

Cheryl Rymal - Tuesday, September 29, 2015

When deciding on buying a new home, there are many decisions to make – from location, style, amenities, realtors and types of financing. One other important decision is to whether purchase an existing home or build a new custom home. There are many benefits to building your custom home over purchasing an existing property.

Building a New Home Offers Customization

When buying an existing home, you are almost certain to discover issues that you must learn to live with. Perhaps there aren’t enough closets, or you wish you have more outlets in the study, maybe the kitchen cabinets are not exactly your taste, or maybe you wished there was a powder room. Yes, there is the possibility of renovation, but that can be costly, very inconvenient and have caused strains on relationships.

With new construction, you have many options from creating your personal floor plan and elevation to deciding on finishing details. With Largo-CR homes, we’ll make sure that everything that goes into your custom home is based upon your wants and desires. We will even point out the pros and cons while designing your home. With existing properties, you can spend several weeks or months changing things to suit your preferences. When moving into a custom home, all that needs to be done is getting settled into your new environment.

Building a New Home Saves Time and Money

When you move into a custom home, everything is new from HVAC all the way down to plumbing fixtures. When purchasing an existing property, even the most thorough inspection cannot identify every potential problem. You are basically taking on someone else’s problems.

With new construction, you are getting materials that are engineered to require less maintenance. Composite materials typically used on the exterior of new construction are less likely to rot or require painting than wood trim and siding commonly used even a decade ago. Buyers are also assured by the warranties that come with new construction. The builder will typically cover any needed repairs for at least the first year. Largo-CR Homes has been known to take care of their customers many years after they move in.

The Best Benefit of all…

Perhaps the biggest benefit of building a new custom home is that you get what you want. While this feature is pretty obvious, there are many more benefits beyond customization that can make building a new home a more practical and economical choice than purchasing a pre-owned home that may have problems you cannot see.
